I was born in a tiny rural town in northern middle Tennessee. I started dating my soon to be husband at 13, he was 19. I dropped out of high school and got married at 15. We had two little girls by the time I was 21. My marriage was difficult, and I was near the end of my rope when I found Jesus in a very real way at age 32. I was a Christian, but my husband had no interest in my faith. I began attending a growing little church, read my Bible and began praying earnestly for God to teach me how to love my husband. I became the church secretary and began to sense a calling to go back to school to become a Christian counselor. My husband did not support this idea, but I began college anyway with my GED when my girls were both in college.
My husband would not support me financially, but I worked and paid my own way. In six years, I graduated Suma Cum Lauda from both undergraduate and graduate school and ended my education debt free. I graduated in May, ready I thought, to begin my private practice. My husband was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease in June of the same year. My full-time practice was put on hold for the next four and a half years as I cared for my husband until his ultimate death. My husband became a Christian midway his illness and we attended church together with him in a wheel chair for the remainder of his life. My oldest daughter is a school teacher and my youngest daughter is a child counselor. I have five grandchildren. I have my counseling office in now my home church at Tusculum Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, Tn.
